I take great care with every portrait to ensure I capture a lifelike painting that shows the character of your pet, it takes a long time to produce a painting of this type at least 35 hours or more. I am very particular about ensuring I have the right photo to paint from so that you can enjoy your painting forever as I know that your pet is very special to you, part of the family and so it is a privilege for me to paint that special “person” for you.

I only use the finest materials which are light fast and will last a lifetime with care. The paper is a specialist pastel paper called “pastelmat” made by a French company called Clairefontaine. My soft pastels are mostly Unison and I use a selection of different pastel pencils made by Faber Castell, Derwent, Carbothello, Caran D’Ache & Cretacolour.

“Martin painted a piece recently as a present for my mum, a brown Labradoodle, absolutely perfect. He has made the picture come to life, the reaction by my Mum on seeing it for the first time was truly special and so worthwhile. I will be returning for further paintings and recommend him, 5 stars”

Mrs H, Devon.

Photography Tips

As the finished painting is likely to be hung at eye level on a wall it is best to take the photograph of your pet at the pet’s level. You can do this by crouching down or putting your pet on a higher level.

Take as many photos as you can ensuring that you are around 3’-6’ away zooming in to fill the picture. Try to get good detail of the eyes and nose as these are key to creating a great portrait.

Lighting is important, ideally take the photos outside in natural daylight, out of sunshine or inside near a window. Make sure the flash is off.
